For farmers this fall has been a challenge The corn and sunflowers are still in the fields and it could be weeks before they re harvested But Ag Reporter Sarah Gustin did find some soybeans finally making their way to the bin It s been a long wait but it s finally go time Russ Schick Combining Soybeans Normally we are done toward the end of September beginning of October but since we got in late we are harvesting late They got kinda got off to a slow start with the cool weather and that put them behind a little ways too Russ Schick has been raising soybeans for the past 5 years This entire year has been about 3 weeks behind normal These beans only got to the ground at the end of May Russ Schick Combining Soybeans They do like alot of moisture later on in like august or september we were a little bit short in those months but they seemed to turn out alright we had enough moisture from the beginning of the months to push them through It s nearly November and the combine is just getting rolling These beans should have been in the bin 3 weeks ago but a cool wet fall hasn t been so great for getting much harvesting done Sarah Gustin KX News It s not ideal combining weather right now the moisture on these beans is about 18 to 19 percent Schick would like to see that number closer to 16 or 17 Russ Schick Combining Soybeans The elevator will take them at 13 5 that s where they want them at so they will have a long ways to go Hopefully the air on the bins will dry them down It s a harvest that has been worth the wait These beans are running about 35 bushels an acre Russ Schick Combining Soybeans The corn is a ways off yet The moisture on that is like 35-40 so I am not going to get too crazy on the beans Try to get them a little bit drier Hopefully get a little nicer weather in November Schick plans to make his last pass of the season within the next two to three weeks East of Hazelton for KX news I am Sarah Gustin Across the state the soybean harvest is only 26 percent complete Compared to more than 75 percent last year
